E. Basol

    Erdogan Basol was born in Istanbul in 1938. His first cartoons appeared in local magazines namely Karakedi (Black Cat) ant Hafta (Week) in 1952. Since that time his cartoons have been published in foregn press too.

He took part together with four his friends in forming a group called United Cartoonists in 1975. He also participated in two private exhibitions with the group in 1975 1nd 1978.

Some of his cartoons were selected for exhibiting permanently in the cartoon museums in Tolentino (Italy), Warsaw (Poland), ant Gabrovo (Bulgaria).

He won various prizes in different categories in the following international cartoonists competitions:

Marostica, Tolento, Vercelli, and Fano (ITALY)
Treajon (KOREA)
Gabrovo (BULGARIA)
Haifa (ISRAEL)
Sopkobanja (YUGOSLAVIJA)
Harbour (AUSTRALIA)
Carlsbad (USA)
He published in 1984 and 2001 two albums named "Karmakarasik" and "Kelamsiz" presenting collections of his cartoons. He was honoured with a prize by the Association of Press Information handed by the Prime-Ministry of Turkey for his endless contributions to the development of the art of cartoon in Turkey over the last 30 years.

Until recently his cartoons on political issues were published in the dayly newspapers "Aksam Gunes Cumhuriyet Barometre" and "Global".

He was elected as a chairman to the Association of Turkish cartoonists for the year 1985.

His studies as a free cartoonist have been in continous progress so far.
